Utopian Lie

He watched it and he cheered aloud

to show the color. You do the task

with shining glory and a laughing crowd

and the face behind the smiling mask.

The hungry, eager on a rock

trying to grow on the waves

and as the exterior fades

to destroy the hearts and rise with the spades

to bar up the windows and shut out the light

then light their torches; holding them high.

Oh, and with all their utopian might,

they will all stand up and live for the lie.
